Geochemical sampling gravity corer - cool lab
core segments are stored at 4°C until sampling
labeled core liner is cut in cool lab using an oscillating saw

the cut core segment is transferred into the argon- flooded glovebox through the shutter. the two halves are separated inside the box using a string and the archive half is taken out again for further documentation (photographs, color scanning) and conductivity measurements

work half of the core segment inside the glove box.

Eh and pH measurement are performed using punch-in electrodes. Sediment samples are taken at defined depths and transferred into PTFE pressure filtration device.

small version of the pressure filtration device. The lowermost chamber is filled with sediment

all six chambers of one pressure filtration device are filled and attached to argon distributor valves. The drain tubes are connected to 20 ml PE scintillation vials. Instruments for Eh and pH measurement are situated on top of the glovebox while electrodes remain inside. Usually two scientists work in the cool lab

Samples for dissolved iron analysis are pipetted into 2ml Eppendorf cups prepared with color reagent (or directly into sealable cuvettes) within the glovebox. We use 0,2 µm Filter (i.e.Sartorius # 11107-142) for pressure filtration.
